“Lakshmi Tatma: The Fascinating Tale of the Eight-Limbed Beauty”

Lakshmi Tatma, a 2-year-old girl, has a unique physical feature of being born with four hands and four legs. Despite her unusual appearance, Lakshmi Tatma was not ignored but was highly respected due to the belief that she is the reincarnation of the Indian deity, Vishnu. Her name was inspired by the goddess of wealth and fortune, Lakshmi, who is also the wife of Vishnu.

As per the parents of Lakshmi, the villagers hold her in high regard and believe that she embodies the goddess born in their village. However, scientific reasoning attributes Lakshmi’s peculiar physical structure to incomplete twinning conjoined below her pelvis. Although it does not affect her much as a child, Lakshmi is likely to face numerous challenges in adulthood due to this condition.

Even though Lakshmi is revered as a divine being by everyone, her parents still harbor the desire for her to undergo surgery and have her limbs amputated so that she can live a normal life like other girls – going to school, socializing with others, and growing up without experiencing anything strange. Unfortunately, the high cost of the surgery makes this wish unattainable for Lakshmi’s parents, leaving it nothing more than just a dream.

Fortunately, a team of over 30 surgeons led by Dr. Sharad Patil took on the challenge to fulfill the parents’ wishes for their daughter, who was born with four arms and legs. The surgery was performed free of charge at a hospital in Bangalore, located in southern India, and lasted for 24 hours. During the surgery, Dr. Patil successfully removed the extra limbs, enabling little Lakshmi to have a normal body like her peers.

Dr. Patil expressed joy and relief after the successful surgery, stating that Lakshmi can now live like any other girl. Lakshmi’s father, Shambu, was overwhelmed with emotion upon seeing his daughter with a normal body and recovering well. Despite the family’s poverty, he expressed deep gratitude towards the doctors who performed the surgery for free, allowing his daughter to have a normal life.
